Now with a much clearer idea in mind I have written a list of things to consider
WHAT WILL MY PROJECT EXPLORE? HOW WILL IT BE PRESENTED?
I hope to create an experimental film that will explore space and fragmented reality. I want to film scenarios or spaces that create or transform our notions of what real is.
The film will be presented in the form of a video collage; each scene will be for filmed at different times, then fragmented and pieced back together again. At the moment I haven’t decided how long each scene will be or how long i will shoot each shot for. This is something I hope to experiment with once shooting begins. The inspiration for the fragmented collage film, much inspired by David Hockney’s Joiner photopgraphy, is to explore and highlight new possibilities and viewpoints of reality by erasing, breaking apart and relocating/re-piecing reality back together. This film should amplify, alternate and remix reality, I will create these effects by exploring different filming techniques and experimenting with filters during post-production.
HOW AND WHAT SUBJECTS/LOCATIONS AM I GOING TO FILM?
What sort of spaces/place are deliberately constructed to create an illusion? E.g A theme park like Disneyland.
“The rise of this commercialized, mediated culture brings with it profound anxieties about how people might know, and act in, the world. The sheer proliferation of television screens, computer networks, theme parks and shopping centres, and the saturation of everyday life by spectacular images so thoroughly mediated and processed that any connection with a ‘real world’ seems lost, adds up to a simulated world: a hyper reality where the artificial is experienced as real.” (Lister et al:2009)
Finding access to a theme park and retrieving permission to film might be quite a challenge, so maybe funfairs could be a consideration. Shopping complexes like Cabot circus or Westfield , which has that modern dome style architectural design.
HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO BE?
Without a storyboard, or a definitive plan of what and where I am going to film, I cannot really say at the moment how long it is going to be.
WHAT AUDIO AM I GOING TO USE?
This seems to be the only thing at the moment that is set in stone. For audio, i want to amplify the sounds of individual things in the scene.
So for example if there is a sequence of a car passing by the sound could possibly be, an exaggeration of the car exhaust vibrating and puffing out emissions, or the amplified sound of the engine revving.
WHICH CAMERA AM I GOING TO USE?
WHAT EDITING SOFTWARE WILL I USE?
WILL I FILM PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE?
I plan to alternate…again I will have to start making decisions of locations and subjects then begin storyboarding asap, before making any final decisions
HOW WILL THE SEQUENCES TRANSITION?
David Hockney, Cubist Artists Such As Picasso, Braqu, Juan Gris, Duchamp
Jena Baudrillard, Debord, Lyotard
WHAT I NEED TO DO NOW? Week 3
1. Start On Production Schedule
2. Do A Prototype Of The Film
3. See How Putting Together Footage In Premiere Will Work
4. Begin storyboarding and then thinking about locations
